Eaton’s Vehicle division is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer-Embedded Systems to join our team. The position will be based at our Galesburg, MI; Southfield, MI; or Marshall,MI facility.
The Senior Controls Engineer-Embedded Systems is responsible for being a part of a team developing next generation powertrain embedded control systems.  As a key member of the team, you will help define requirements, contribute to definition of electronics hardware design, design embedded system software architecture and algorithm solutions, define test plans and perform validation testing to confirm that system and functional requirements are met.  In this role, you will be responsible for working with team members and your engineering manager to estimate development, resources and timing to achieve the desired results. You will have the opportunity to be mentored and trained by senior level embedded controls engineers and software architects to help grow your overall expertise and you will be expected to train and mentor less experienced engineers. You will work with engineers located in other locations in the U.S., India and China

  • You will help define and improve embedded system level and algorithm requirements to meet product performance, reliability requirements, improve embedded controls standards and processes, and potentially contribute to industry technical papers and conferences.
  • You will invent and develop embedded control system strategies and guide architecture design to achieve solutions.
  • You will use debugging and simulation tools to efficiently perform design iterations and optimization.
  • You will verify solutions created by you or other team members through simulation, sub-system, hardware-in-the-loop and vehicle level testing.
  • You will drive implementation consistency across multiple resources contributing to the same embedded system architecture.
  • You will guide and document improvements to the engineering standard work processes we use to engineer our products.
  • You will utilize FMEA process to enhance design robustness.
  • You will contribute to continued enhancement of Core Embedded Software to support additional product features.
  • You will develop validation and verification test plans at a unit, sub-system and vehicle level to fully validate requirements.
  • You will study vehicle data from test and customer vehicles to investigate, identify, and resolve issues and performance complaints.

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with embedded control system.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in electrical, controls, software or relevant engineering field.
  • Experience in embedded software development (C++, Model-based software, Simulink).
  • Expertise with Controller Area Networks (e.g. SAE-J1939, CANOpen).
  • Expertise with Vector tools such as CANape and CANalyzer.
  • Project management skills to assess task effort, manage priorities, and report status.
  • Experience with change management and software release processes in a team environment.
Position Success Criteria:
  • Willing to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • The ideal candidate would have experience in, or knowledge of automotive drivetrain/powertrain systems and components.
  • Experience with Object-Oriented MatLAB code/module generation.
  • Good communication skills with ability to interface directly with external partners, suppliers, and both internal and external customers.
