Job Description


The Engineering Manager has Regional Engineering responsibility for Proportional and Industrial Valves product line and engineering function. This position will manage the Engineering activities in new product development through product support to product replacement or rationalization. Local responsibility for product engineering support for advanced control valves, piston pumps and GG motors production.

This role plays a critical part in the continued development of the wide portfolio of hydraulics valves, pumps and motors.

The role is central to developing future talent for the engineering function and for driving involvement with STEM activities to ensure a pipeline of engineering expertise

Essential Functions:


·       Control product design through sound engineering creation, application, and documentation of drawings, engineering standards, test reports, FMEA’s, etc.  Project responsibilities include PROLaunch, Gate Reviews, Design Reviews, Project Reviews, RPS/MPS, Quoting, Project Management, Engineering OPEX and Cost Out.

·       Working with established scorecard measures to review progress, evaluate results, and initiate change.

·       Execute an Engineering specific strategy which provides direction for your specific responsibility and is linked to the product group Engineering Strategy and Hydraulics Strategy.


·       Limit Eaton’s exposure to Product Liability by ensuring sound engineering practices.  Also, interface with Corporate Legal to defend Eaton on potential Product Liability issues.

·       Manage engineering organizational structure that supports the Hydraulics Strategy as well as the regional needs.

·       Prepare and manage a budget which allows the Engineering group to advance while also falling within profit plan expectations.

·       Represent Proportional and Industrial Valves product lines at industry organizations such as BFPA, BSI, CETOP, ISO, etc.

·       Maintain close liaison with the Marketing/Sales function and end customers, as related to application reviews, new product requirements, major modifications of existing products, customer prototype qualification test requirements and to resolve product performance deficiencies.


Qualifications and Knowledge:


·       A Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree is required. Advanced Management training preferred.

·       Basic understanding of Finance and Accounting

·       A thorough technical knowledge of the product line or function the incumbent is managing, that includes product design, test and evaluation, and the manufacturing methods and processes. 

·       An understanding of the current strategic plans of the Hydraulics Operations

·       Ability to work with teams in remote global locations.

·       Effective communication skills at all levels of the organization.

·       Ability to work with functions outside of Engineering for the common good of Eaton.
