Eaton’s Hydraulic Group is currently seeking a Product Engineer to be part of our Brooklyn OH team.
 
Position overview:
 
In this role, you will manage and coordinate the development of new products and the maintenance of existing products by leveraging available resources to complete projects on-time and within budget.
 
Eaton’s $2B Hydraulics business serves global and diverse markets and customers with four major product lines: Power & Motion Controls, Fluid Conveyance, Golf Grip, and Filtration. 75% of the hydraulics business is focused on mobile segments (joystick controls, gear pumps, manifolds) and 25% on stationary segments (coolers, cylinders, piston & vane pumps). Essential Functions:
  • Lead the development of new or revisions to existing products (Industrial Clutches and Brakes) to meet market needs, profitability goals, reliability requirements and manufacturing capability in accordance with standard development practices.
  • Initiate project plans, which include the scheduled actions and the resources required to meet the project objectives. Execute projects according to the established plan.
  • Develop Product and Technology Roadmaps that aligns with business objectives and drives product line sales growth in target markets.
  • Write effective test requests for technicians to execute. Analyze results and clearly summarize the findings in technical reports.
  • Hands on participation and leadership with dynamometer testing of large industrial clutches and brakes.
  • Perform field installation and analysis of industrial clutches and brakes related to new product development, customer support or quality concerns.
  • Perform and document design calculations, including simulations and advanced analysis for new designs and design revisions. Lead product design reviews and follow through on recommended changes. Utilize Design for Six Sigma processes and tools.
  • Work with manufacturing engineers and supply chain managers to assure manufacturability, cost effectiveness and reliability of the assigned product lines. Perform trade off analysis and lead VA/VE events.
  • Maintain product design control, initiate and follow through on engineering changes, and verify all documentation of new designs or design changes is complete.
  • Maintain close liaison with the manufacturing function during the introduction and development of new products. Resolve design related production problems, apply statistical methods as needed. Disposition material that does not conform to product specifications.
  • Maintain close liaison with the sales and marketing functions and end customers, as related to application reviews, new product requirements, major modifications of existing products, customer prototype qualification test requirements and resolving product performance deficiencies.
  • Resolve product performance issues through team oriented problem solving and document according to the 8D process.
  • Initiate the generation of new ideas and document them appropriately for possible patent protection or to reserve as trade secrets.
  • Initiate and maintain the Potential Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) related to new and existing products.
  • Maintain professional education through training opportunities in the field of his/her expertise.
  • Act as technical specialist, recognized within the Division as being capable of: significant accomplishments in his/her field(s) of expertise; developing unique engineering technologies; and/or solving difficult problems of technical nature.
  • Represent the Hydraulics Division by participating in committees that may affect its products.

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution
  • 3 years of product engineering experience
  • Experience with 3D modeling
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship
  • Candidates must reside within 50 miles of Brooklyn, OH plant to be considered for this position.
  • This position requires us of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).  All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR.  ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. “Green Card Holder”), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
Preferred Qualifications (Not required to be qualified for the job)
  • Master's in Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Industrial product engineering experience
  • Hydraulics industry experience
  • Software programming experience
  • CAD modeling such as ProE/CREO or similar tool
  • Experience designing industrial clutches and brakes
 
Position Criteria
  • Willing to travel at least 10% of the time.
  • Familiarity with DFSS (Design for Six Sigma) tools
