Eaton’s Aerospace Fuel  Motion Control Systems Division is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer supporting the Software, Control, and Electronics (SwEC) Center of Excellence (COE) design team. The Electrical Design Engineer will be based in Grand Rapids, MI.
Positon Overview:
The Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for providing electronic engineering design expertise during the development of controller based motor drives.  Tasks will include managing electronic hardware requirements, developing circuit architectures, perform circuit modeling and analysis, building prototype electronic circuits, developing requirement based test cases and test procedures, performing formal circuit verification, and providing troubleshooting oversight for electronics based motor control products.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Perform electronic hardware development tasks like functional decomposition of requirements, creation of architectural block diagram, component selection, detailed circuit design, and worst case circuit analysis, test case and test procedure development, and formal circuit performance verification to ensure compliance to all performance and environmental requirements.
  • Design operational amplifier and comparator circuits, sensor interface circuits, inverter circuits for high voltage and high power motor drives, buck and flyback topology power supplies, voltage and current sensing circuits, etc.
  • Model and analyze electronic circuits using tools such as PSpice and MatLab/Simulink.
  • Perform failure analysis, root cause determination, and corrective action implementation down to component level.
  • Manage assigned tasks to schedule and budget.
  • Work with mechanical, electrical, software, firmware, test, motor and specialty engineers to develop products.
  • Hands on hardware development and troubleshooting experience


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum  of 2 year of electrical design experience.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future.
  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Requirements development for electronic circuit assemblies.
  • Knowledge of motor based electronic controllers.
  • Analog and digital electronics circuit design and development.
  • Electronics packaging design.
  • Electromechanical actuator design.
  • Knowledge of industry standards (IPC, MIL specs, RTCA DO-160, DO-254).
Position Criteria:
  • Willing to travel up to 10% of the time.
