Eaton’s Lighting Division is currently seeking a Sustaining Engineer to join our team. This position is based at our Aurora CO facility.
Position overview:
The primary function of this role will be to create submittal drawings, bills of material, and design custom lighting fixtures that meet or exceed customer expectations, product performance and aesthetic benchmarks as established by our Marketing and leadership teams while also conforming to all regulatory requirements. The sustaining engineer position, and as a part of a larger team, will be responsible for designing, planning, directing, and coordinating manufacturing processes for our architectural lighting brands.

Essential Functions:
  • You will identify cost savings projects and designs. Complete these projects from start to finish on time and within budget.
  • You will create and maintain bill of materials (BOMs) for standard product and product releases.
  • You will design custom parts and products using Solid Works per customer specifications.
  • You will obtain and maintain UL compliance on all products.
  • You will develop good working relationships with vendors and the purchasing group to obtain quotes, prototypes and rework of parts.
  • You will complete designs, maintain document control processes, change notice (ECN) releases and creating BOMs & part number set up.
  • You will develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing processes using various methods including: time studies, statistical methods and estimating future manufacturing requirements and potential.
  • You will support the Customer Service department with answers to technical questions with regard to products, installations and field service issues.
  • You will troubleshoot engineering related warranty and service issues with customers to determine root cause and problem solve solutions. This involves having (1) the requisite product knowledge needed to identify, address, and solve problems, (2) having good communication and interpersonal skills to be able to talk to a customer about solutions and give them a positive response, and (3) experience and creativity to come up with cost effective approaches.

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution
  • Must have AutoCAD & 3D Modeling software (SolidWorks, Pro-E, Inventor) experience
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position.  Only candidates within a 50 mile radius of the work location will be considered
Preferred Qualifications: (Not required to be qualified for the role)
  • 2 years' experience designing for a manufacturing environment
  • Experience created Bill of Materials in SAP
  • 2 years of design experience using SolidWorks
  • Wiring/Circuits knowledge and the ability to create proper wiring diagrams experience creating part drawings for manufacturing
Position Success Criteria:
  • Ideal candidate has a good understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Comfortable with technology and has a strong working knowledge of MS office suite, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and SAP
  • Effective verbal & written communication skills to interface with managers, vendors, customers and peers.
  • Must have an analytical and process-driven approach, with a high attention to detail
  • Capability in multi-tasking, including prioritization of work and management/organization of time.
  • Strong drive for results is essential, with self-directed leadership, requiring minimal supervision & being proactive.
  • Must possess high ethical standards and be comfortable working in a fast paced, changing environment.
