Job Description

The Planning and Inventory Control Manager is responsible for the daily operation of the planning and scheduling functions.  The manager directs team efforts in a complex planning and scheduling environment and determines root cause issues to develop effective corrective actions.  As the leader of the planning group, the Planning and Inventory Control Manager resolves conflicts with customer service and production leadership,while supporting open communication between schedulers and shop floor supervisors.
This position leads the critical function of planning and detail scheduling the productive output of plant operations.  The manager is accountable to efficient inventory management through  the implementation of lean planning tools and customer service excellence by analyzing, reviewing and improving the policies and procedures.  The Planning and Inventory Control Manager supports EBS and continuous process improvements while  facilitating problem-solving.   The incumbent ensures the effective execution of clearly defined make to stock and make to order policies and procedures.
Strong leadership qualities are essential for the successful execution of this job requirement.   This position not only leads and manages the direct reports but also influences site direction, policy and priorities.
  • Supervises the efficient productive output of Production Planners in support of all inventory, production, and customer service goals using lean planning princilples and processes.
  • Responsible for the development and management of the team including, talent acquisition and retention, disciplinary actions, training and certifications, work assignments, scheduling vacation and monitoring attendance
  • Allocates and balances the team workload in accordance with production requirements and personnel skill levels
  • Develops, maintains, and reports metrics that measure and drive departmental improvement.
  • Analyzes forecasted demand by working closely with the product management and division supply chain teams to ensure sufficient safety stock and strategic inventory levels on all finished good products
  • Develop and implement a capacity planning model to facilitate identification of capacity issues and recommend areas of additioanal focus or improvement.
  • Work closely and proactively with purchasing to establish and maintain inventory levels that support the factory build schedules and forecasts, specifically using lean processes to delivery superior results.
  • Work directly with customer service to maximize customer service, identify potential problems and work creatively to develop and implement improved proceses with no impact to our customers.
  • Develop and maintain countermeasures to address the root causes of customer service related issues.
  • Build relationships with co-workers in customer service, purchasing, production, and engineering to focus on continuous process enhancement.  Also work toward the creation of a lean support culture in accord with our overall division lean objectives.
  • Work with the division supply chain team to coordinate stocking levels through the seamless execution of daily production and shipment schedules.
  • Subject matter expert & key planning contact for all new product development, value engineering, maintenance, Lean activities and continuous improvement projects
  • Align with management and human resource goals for training and mentoring all direct reports to ensure skill levels support organizational initiatives
  • Performs other supervisory and project related tasks as required by management


Production Planning Team
Bachelor degree in supply chain, management, or business
5 Years experience in a Supply chain role
Comprehensive skills with entire MS Office Package
Extensive SAP (or similar ERP system) planning expertise
5-7 years material management / material requirements planning / master production scheduling experience
LEAN implementation experience
Ability to conceptualize, define and resolve complex problems
Excellent analytical, problem solving and facilitation skills
Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Strong Interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
Ability to handle multiple tasks along with excellent time management skills and customer service skills
Strong, positive work ethic
Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently, in a fast-paced environment, with minimal supervision
