Job Description

State the primary function or overall purpose of your position.
  • Directs and controls the movement of materials in and out of the plant.  Manages key materials related functions such as purchasing, production scheduling, inventory control, shipping and receiving, and warehousing.
  • Manage global sourcing of indirect & direct material
  • Manage internal and external logistics of material and product flow

Provide continuous support of plant requirements related to materials function
Manage Logistics, Planning MRO, Senior Buyer and Customer order interface function.
Lead production scheduling
Manage, lead, develop & guide associates in developing materials skills
Lead EBS in area of materials activities & support plant activities
Manage objective planning process related to materials activities
Build & maintain a positive working relationship with internal & external customers
Initiate & implement process improvement activities to meet business objectives (scheduling levels, lean value chains, logistics contracts)
Support Corporate cost-out activities as representative for the plant
Manage releases to suppliers to ensure superior supplier delivery performance while minimizing freight costs & inventory investment.
Champion demand planning & production scheduling processes integrated with Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning processes
Develops and controls production schedules and inventory levels based on sales forecasts and other commitments.
Manages plant purchasing activities for items procured on local basis.
Defines methods to insure the most economical movement of materials in/out of plant, to meet freight budget.
Directs materials staff to insure objectives, schedules and budgets are achieved.
Support EHS action plan.  Safety performance improvement.  Improve MESH deployment.  Ensure EHS goals are fully cascaded. Contractors Certification.  Handling of chemicals. See attachment for more details.
Demonstrate the application of the 8 CIF modules and support related initiatives on daily basis through establishing, maintaining and complying his/her Standard Work and other tools.  Participate in Kaizen events, Lean Council and Continuous Improvement teams when required.  Generate ideas for improvement according with the local programs.  Implement and optimize Lean Management tools.  Sustain the ELLS tools (VSM, 5´s, TMP, STW, Set up, Problem Solving, Materials Management and 6 Sigma) to drive the continuous improvement performance when apply.
Coordinate in conjunction with Quality Manager CRR visits and define action plans to improve Customer satisfaction.
Lead cost out efforts in the materials function to achieve profit plans targets.
Lead annual inventory to ensure inventory accuracy.
Responsible of CONC components: premium freight, excess &obsolete


  • University degree required, with qualification in Logistics, Materials Management or Inventory Control preferred
  • APICS certification is an advantage
  • Trade compliance expertise
  • Demonstrated experience & understanding of Maquila & Pitex processes
  • 7 - 10 years experience in the Materials function in a manufacturing environment (Automotive preferred), with demonstrated ability to lead a team
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing tools, pull systems (KanBan & Min-Max)
  • Solid working knowledge of MRP systems & strong PC skills, JD Edwards experience
  • High level of interpersonal skill to work effectively with others
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish/English)
Knowledge of problem solving techniques, (8D´s, A3)
