New Product Engineering Manager

Job Description

  1. Champions, plans, organizes, and assigns team members to projects and tasks based on team’s capability and creative skills, ensuring team accountability to project timeline, performance and cost targets and driving the team to the successful completion of new product development projects
  2. Translates customer wants/needs into feasible product design concepts, collaborating with a global multi-disciplined team in marketing, manufacturing, sales, and quality to develop, validate and launch differentiated products into the market that provide sustainable and profitable growth for the business
  3. Develops and nurtures the technical and creative skills of the engineering team through coaching and training to enable unique design solutions to complex technical challenges of key customers.
  4. Utilizes and educates team in quality management systems and six sigma tools, such as failure mode and effects analysis, control plans, design of experiments, and statistical analysis in developing robust design solutions.
  5. Builds an organization of diverse skills and experiences that will enable the research, design, and implementation of new circuit protection products that can be economically manufactured, while supporting product goal alignment with Eaton’s operational priorities of safety, quality, delivery, cost and inventory.
  6. Employs rigorous engineering and problem solving techniques, determining root cause and developing appropriate permanent corrective actions to develop and improve design and production solutions
  7. Guides team members in the evaluation, selection and application standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria to complete technically complex projects that align with the strategic direction of the business.
  8. Coordinates with laboratory and plant production teams to create and evaluate product prototypes and production samples required for customer evaluations and product verification testing.
  9. Reports and presents project progress throughout the lifecycle of the project to all levels of the organization.


  1. Mechanical engineering bachelor degree or equivalent required.  Master’s degree preferred.
  2. Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in product development of electric/mechanical assemblies in a rigorous engineering environment with at least three (3) years of experience managing engineering team.
  3. Knowledge in the design of components with varied manufacturing processes including: injection molding, stamping, machining and high volume assembly processes.
  4. Knowledge and experience in thermodynamics, electrical and mechanical properties of materials, statistics, mechanical statics and dynamics, and electrical arcing phenomena is desirable.
  5. Demonstrated leadership style that is consistent with Eaton expectations of leaders (ethical, passionate, accountable, efficient, transparent, learner).  Capable of leading change in a cross-functional environment that requires cross-region, site, and/or global collaboration and span. 
  6. Previous experience working with automotive customers and products desirable
  7. Previous experience and knowledge of automotive design processes and APQP design principles desirable
  1. Experience in testing techniques.  Knowledge of power test equipment and measurement instrumentation is highly desirable.
  1. Knowledge of electrical circuit protection products, electrical distribution systems, and applicable industry standards is desirable.
  1. Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal communication and presentation skills with the ability to make necessary status reports and technical presentations to Eaton and Customer senior leadership.
  2. Fluent in English and Spanish.
  3. Ability to effectively motivate team members that are not direct reports.
  1. Competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, 3D CAD modeling tools, and Minitab.
