Job Description

The VA/VE Project Engineer’s primary responsibility is to drive projects that result in product cost, feature or function improvements by utilizing VA/VE (Value Analysis / Value Engineering) methodologies, which focus on existing product portfolios as a control for escalating material and labor costs, or improving product margins, while maintaining product integrity. This role requires strong ideation skills and the ability to simultaneously program manage multiple projects across multinational sites. The position will require facilitation of Value Analysis events to generate a pipeline of ideas and subsequent execution. The person in this role should be a strong communicator who is able to work effectively with peers and management alike in a high paced environment.

• Provide Engineering design support for productivity improvement projects through effective participation on cross-functional VAVE teams
• Lead Engineering efforts on critical direct material cost-out projects, including idea development, prototype, project execution, and plant/business system implementation
• Support plant and Product Management cost out activities
• Ownership of overall project management for VA/VE projects through Pro-Launch
• Coordinate with operations group at manufacturing facilities to implement VA/VE projects during Pro-Launch
• Provide Engineering support to existing product lines, working closely with our production teams and supplier base

o Evaluation of design characteristics on product yields

o DVP&R (test programs & results)
o DpFMEA
o Identification of Special Characteristics (CTQ’s)
o DOE
• Hands on approach to testing, including proof of concept, design validation and agency approval

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Business, Engineering, or equivalent experience required (Experience defined as to 5 years in manufacturing environment or 3 years of experience in a similar position desired)
• Experience in project management
• A thorough understanding of PROLaunch NPD and STP process
• Ability to manage multiple projects/activities
• Engineering / Operations / Product Engineering / Project Engineering experience preferred
• Excellent communication skills to interact at all levels within and outside the Organization
• Previous Electrical experience preferred.
• Black Belt preferred
• Bilingual English / Spanish (English at conversational level)
• Detail Oriented
• Strong analytical skills
• Understanding of problem solving methods (Six Sigma, 8D, root cause analysis) a plus
• An understanding of Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality Control Methodology, and 2 to 4 years of experience in project management is required.
• Thorough knowledge of project management methodology, fluency in MS Project or equivalent project management software and Earned Value Management.
• 1-3+ years of product design experience with competency in injection molding, metal stamping and machining processes
• Use of DFMEA, tolerance analysis, engineered material selection and product costing
• Strong knowledge of tooling, production, and Eaton quality systems.
• 3D modeling and 2D detailing (CAD) experience (Pro/Engineer [Creo 2.0] and AutoCAD preferred).
• Strong project management skill sets
