Job Description

Eaton’s Electrical Division is seeking an Entry Level Manufacturing Engineer for the Sumter, SC facility.

Position Overview:

Work on complex projects in the development of methods and processes. Research and offer solutions to resolve problems. Investigate, establish and implement requirements for equipment, tooling, materials, and methods of production. Recommend capital purchases. Determine best utilization of equipment, facilities, material flow and personnel. Investigate and troubleshoot technical problems. Write, review and revise operation sheets, prepare or direct preparation of time/motion studies. Evaluate and initiate orders for new machinery and equipment required for production process. Confer with engineering personnel on design changes, tooling and new product development programs. Support other processes of the facility such as quality, supply chain, MESH, design, production and front-end ordering. Manage capital improvement projects.

Essential Functions:
  • Determine manufacturing methods and machine or line loading to produce parts, sub-assemblies, and assemblies for new products or customer orders requiring extensive planning consistent with overall division objectives.
  • Plan all tooling such as  brake dies, punches, jigs, fixtures, special tools, and similar items.
  • Evaluate, specify and implement the operation of new and existing machine tools and other equipment.
  • Outline the required workflow and material handling devices including storage areas, work areas, and workplace layout. Prepare complete operation line-ups to manufacture all parts for a product line or for a section.
  • Support Lean, Six Sigma, and Pro Launch through the creation of Process Maps, Standard Work, Takt Times, Potential Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Design of Experiments, Control Plans, and Job Safety Analysis for production lines.
  • Estimate the time required to manufacture all parts for a product line or a section
  • based on the most economical methods developed through manufacturing planning in conjunction with methods, tools, work, plant layouts, and design engineering.
  • Compile complete cost analyses for a product line or section based on extension     
  • of hourly rates, burden and material costs, cost of new machine tools and the handling of equipment.  This includes specifications for such items as layouts, tooling, machine tools, and material.
  • Follow all cost reducing methods through installation and successful operation.
  • Recommend replacements and dispositions of equipment and facilities for a given area and maintain applicable records.
  • Plan and control expenditures of the annual facility programs encompassed in the respective area of responsibility and maintain applicable records.  Prepare reports on new methods
  • Take necessary measures to improve the quality of product and information in the respective area of responsibility.
  • Safety responsibilities include safety and housekeeping objectives; follow all safety rules and procedures and report unsafe conditions to line management.
  • Develop routings and cost associated with processing of parts. Background in DMM and Metamation is a plus.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with a graduation date no later than May 2018 from an accredited institution
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship
 Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior Manufacturing Engineering experience including Internships preferred
  • Experience working with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma Tools
