Job Description

Eaton’s Vehicle Division is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer – Systems and Controls. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will be based at our South Bend, IN facility.
Position Overview:  
Provides plant manufacturing and maintenance engineering support, with an emphasis on controls and automation. Leads projects to achieve plant goals in safety, quality, delivery and cost, in a manner consistent with South Bend’s designation as Eaton’s Forging COE (Center of Excellence). Works closely with Divisional Advanced Manufacturing and Program Management functions to create and implement new manufacturing processes.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Support the maintenance and integration of automation programs. Comprehensively spec robotics applications for a given process.
  • Train personnel in robotics maintenance.
  • Utilizes PROLaunch (as required) to support profitable, reliable and on-time launch of automation projects within the facility.  (NPD, STP, etc.).
  • Support Divisional Advanced Manufacturing studies for capacity analysis and new technologies.
  • Able to identify process inefficiencies or improvements, and formulate comprehensive business cases to address these. 
  • Partners with the Quality function to provide support for automated data collection and analysis activities.
  • Proficient with PLC programming.
  • Monitors forging processes, reconciles irregularities through SPCs and Six Sigma methodologies.  Demonstrates ability to understand source(s) of variation by applying Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Maintain and develop robotics Machine FMEAs.
  • Apply Eaton MESH regulations to ensure automation projects are launched safely.
  • Working knowledge of Gage R&R, SPC, Six Sigma, and PPAPs.
  • Able to program and troubleshoot automation cells.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution required.
  • Minimum 2 years of engineering experience.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience with automation, systems, and/or controls.
  • Lean/Six Sigma Certification.
  • Project Management experience.
  • Warm forging experience and/or heavy industry experience.
