OPEX Senior Engineer

Job Description

Primary Function
The OPEX Senior Engineer position provides support to Arecibo's manufacturing operations in Feeders. This includes the establishment of manufacturing processes, control and capacity analysis, cost studies, safety assessments, quality control implementations and continuous improvements of manufacturing processes.
Defines, coordinates, leads and executes actions to improve productivity, quality, scrap reduction, PPMs reduction, capacity and OTP increase, safety improvement and  operational cost reduction.
Defines and leads process improvement projects in order to improve plant’s indicators (PPM, Warranty Claims, Fill Rate, On-Time Performance, OEE, and Scrap).
Essential Functions
  1. Develops, evaluates and improves manufacturing methods and processes.
  2. Designs visual controls and embedded test.
  3. Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements and work process flow.
  4. Designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  5. Generates, reviews, updates and develops Standard Work Instruction, Visual aids and MIL's.
  6. Trains and certifies manufacturing operators.
  7. Develops & updates VSM for Currents and Future states.
  8. Provides guidance for the proper selection of manufacturing equipment and tools.
  9. Performs and prepares capacity studies.
  10. Works with the requirements established by Lean (Standard Work Flow, Manning, Layout, Operation Balance Chart, VSM, Cross Training and TPM), EQS and Mesh.
  11. Responsible for the implementation of Lean / Kaizen Events in mfg. areas.
  12. Supports manufacturing equipment design and validation.
  13. Monitors manufacturing processes/performance and provide/implement corrective actions to problems.
  14. Performs data analysis and prepare reports
  15. Analyzes equipment/processes using six sigma tools in order to identify and implements improvements (e.g. MSA).
  16. Responsible of cost savings programs assigned.
  17. Justifies, manages and implements capital projects including appropriation generation, establish requirements, getting quotes, placing orders, monitor/reports progress and ensure the completion of projects.
  18. Performs safety analysis, safety inspections and remediation projects in coordination with the MESH department for the production operations.
  19.  Promotes and promulgates all MESH Process and Policies to all the employees under his/her supervisor and ensure that they are being performed at his/her area.
  20. Participates in accidents investigation processes (EH&S).
  21. Evaluates and selects new technologies/equipment to improve quality, performance and safety.
  22. Manages and generates Job Safety Analysis (JSA) of manufacturing processes.
  23. Answers C.Q.M's & CAPA's in a timely manners (Take Containment, Corrective & Preventive actions, Root cause, actions plans, etc..) 
  24. Participates in audits (ISO, EQS,LEAN,MESH, etc..)



• Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience supporting manufacturing operations or related area.  
• Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
• Knowledge/ Experience:
  • Feeders Metal Forming processes for mechanical and electrical components negotiation.
  • Development, evaluation and improvement of manufacturing methods and processes to reduce scrap, reduce warranty PPMs and improve OTP.
  • Analysis and planning of work force utilization.
  • Development and implementation of manufacturing instructions.
  • Layout design and modification.
  • Development of Manufacturing processes continues improvements.
  • Preparation of Capacity Studies.
  • Data analysis and reports.
  • Leadership on cost savings initiatives and projects.
  • Capital projects management.
  • Lean (Standard Work Flow, Manning, Layout, Operation Balance Chart, VSM and Cross Training).
  • New technology implementation to improve quality and performance.
  • Internal/external audits, including certification renewal.

• PC literate: Microsoft Office (Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Minitab systems.


• Proficiency in speaking/ writing English and Spanish Language.
