Eaton Corporation’s Controls and Power Conversion Division (CPCD) has an opening for a Systems Test Engineering lead, located in Menomonee Falls, WI.  This position will reside in the divisional headquarters building, which houses engineering for multiple product lines as well as marketing, sales, finance, and R&D.  The facility was built in 2012 and boasts an open office layout surrounded by large windows, as well as 50,000+ square feet of onsite state-of-the-art laboratory space, a basketball court, ping-pong, employee lounge, and grill & patio.  Additionally, Eaton encourages employee development and health through tuition reimbursement and fitness club reimbursement.  With eight Eaton facilities and more than 1600 employees located in Southeastern Wisconsin, Eaton’s local footprint enables our employees with state of the art laboratories and access to manufacturing, all while providing ample opportunities for development and career growth within region.
The qualified candidate will be responsible for various test engineering tasks including: analyzing system requirements for testability; developing test procedures; developing and maintaining test scripts, software tools and fixtures for the validation of embedded software/firmware in electronic motor control, motor protection and monitoring systems.  The candidate will also execute tests, document test results and validate defect corrections. 
Essential Functions:
  • Development of test cases and associated procedures based upon requirements
  • Design, develop and execute test scripts
  • Execute manual test procedures
  • Prepare reports on test progress and regression
  • Develop reusable libraries for test automation
  • Design and maintain software tools and hardware fixtures for efficient and effective testing of products.
  • Develop advanced automated test frameworks to exercise our world-class applications in an effort to increase test coverage and reduce testing costs.
  • Perform other duties as required to achieve departmental and divisional objectives.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical/computer engineering (or equivalent related to embedded software/firmware engineering) from an accredited institution
  • 2+ years’ experience in an embedded software/firmware test engineering role. 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution
  • 2+ years in Test Leadership experience
  • Experience developing custom automation tools for embedded systems.
  • Knowledge and experience related to industrial applications such as motor protection, motor control, industrial communications protocols, and power systems is preferred. 
  • Experience extending a scripting language and graphical user interfaces is desired.
  • Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) is desired
  • Experience with Python and Lua programming languages.
Position Criteria:
  • Working knowledge of the evaluation methods in the design, development, and debugging of electronic devices.
  • Working knowledge of IEC, UL, and CSA standards for industrial devices preferred.
  • Knowledge of Software Quality Assurance methodologies and process preferred.
  • Working knowledge of test tools and equipment to streamline and ensure test coverage and traceability.
  • Proven ability to define functional processes and ensuring consistent application.
  • Strong competency in customer focus, leadership, technical/functional excellence and the ability to champion change.
