The incumbent will primarily be responsible for managing end to end Quality Assurance (QA) activities for the COCOE and BICOE addressing QA needs across all sectors, Electrical, Industrial and Corporate for all of the 5 Front End Initiatives running in IT (Digital Customer Experience, Siebel C360, MDM, PDH, Product Configurator), BI and Enterprise Mobile applications.
 
This is a global role and requires managing the QA deliveries for enterprise-wide key and strategic projects/programs, large implementations ; enhancement and upgrade projects which have potential to impact business worth millions of dollars across countries.
 
This individual will have the knowledge and / or expertise in multiple areas of QA such as various testing tools, different types of testing such as automation and performance testing, different development methodologies such as Waterfall, agile, DevOps etc. and use these effectively to deliver QA activities for projects, releases, changes etc.
 
Additionally, this person will be responsible for managing the QA team consisting of employees and vendor resources to the tune of 12-18 people. This number could also go up based on the variable demand from the projects.
 
The role will also be responsible to:
  • Provide leadership and management capabilities for functional, technical or process related IT QA initiatives and responsible for overall organization building
  • Define and drive continuous improvement by leveraging industry standard best practices, processes, tools, program/portfolio management methodologies
  • Manage, interact and influence internal customers and partners, on  global teams involving a diverse set of stakeholders across various functions, geographies and nationalities
  • Responsible for vendor management relations and contract reviews
 
 

 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Limit yourself to 8-12 statements)

List the essential functions (i.e. key responsibilities with expected end results), which must be accomplished in order to fulfill the purpose of your position as described above.
  • Consult with the Business, IT Leadership, BRMs to develop, define, and implement QA Strategy for COCOE, BICOE & Mobility
  • Align operational processes, resources and tools with IT Strategic plans and deliver projects with a consistent approach to drive towards common/standard platforms for areas of responsibility
  • Obtain management support for time, resources and budget required to perform QA activities aligned with IT Strategic Plan and IT QA Strategy for COCOE, BICOE & Mobility
  • Responsible for capacity planning and effective utilization of the team for areas of responsibility
  • Define and execute overall test strategies, plans, estimations simultaneously for multiple large or complex projects and programs
  • Evaluate new trends and tools/technologies in QA space and adopt them to continuously improve deliverables.
  • Ensure all test artifacts for manual, automation, performance testing are approved and all exit criteria's of different testing phase are met
  • Responsible for defining, enhancing and maintaining QA related processes and related artifacts
  • Responsible for installing, maintaining and upgrading enterprise Testing Tools Suite to ensure continuity of business process testing
  • Continuously enhance maturity of the IT QA function by Building Organizational Capability w.r.t people, processes and tools for efficient execution of all test activities
  • Manage risks, issues, dependencies and escalations
  • Responsible for achieving organizational IT BSC metrics, QA specific KRAs, conducting RCA and implementing lessons learned
  • Conduct test progress review meetings and distribute reports, metrics dashboards to stakeholders as appropriate
  • Responsible to formulate and achieve profit plan for areas of responsibility
  • Accountable for talent management of the team including talent acquisitions, talent development, retention, performance management for areas of responsibility
  • Support organizational change management related to QA processes, tools and metrics

Qualifications

Delivery
    • QA manager would be responsible for conducting QA activities for projects of varying scale, more focus would be on large projects with higher complexity and project budget greater than USD 1,000,000 ( >$1 M).
    • Larger projects would require management of QA engagement where QA efforts could vary from 800 hrs to 2000 hrs.
    • At any point of time there would be multiple concurrent projects that would need to be managed. On an average, QA manager is expected to manage QA engagements for 10 to 16 projects of medium to large size, plus several smaller efforts running in parallel. The engagement would be with different set of project managers and business relationship manager across regions.
    • Plan, manage & track QA activities for projects on or before due date and within estimated efforts +-10%
    • Estimated and actual effort variance +-10%
       
      Quality
      The Front End, BI and Mobility applications are used by multiple functions and roles across the organization specially the Sales and Marketing, Business Development etc. and could impact sales and revenue generation directly, hence focus on quality would be paramount while delivering the projects.
       
The IT organization has an Enterprise Balanced Score Card (BSC). Also, the QA organization has a set of QA specific metrics that measure and assess the effectiveness and efficiency of the QA activities. The QA manager must ensure and strive for highest desired maturity for every element of his/her organization.
 
Some of the standard metrics are listed here which must be adhered to as well (and may eventually contribute towards maturity as described above):
 
Meet or exceed targets set out various performance measures for following measures:
Project Delivery
    • Meet or exceed KPIs for defined QA metrics for manual, automation and performance testing
    • Meet or exceed ITSM targets
    • Contribute in achieving the score of 4.4 or above in Project Portfolio Customer Satisfaction Index
    • Defect Removal Efficiency (DRE) which measures effectiveness of QA activities in removing defects prior to production
    • % Projects Closed Within +/-10% of QA Estimates
    • Quality Assurance Data Health based on various milestones of the testing lifecycle
       
      Employee Engagement
    • Employee Survey metrics related to employee engagement and manager effectiveness
    • Manage attrition as per organizational goal
       
      Financials
    • Achieve profit plan target for areas of responsibility
  • Actuals within +/- 10% of forecast
  • Forecasts submitted in time
Note: Above targets and/or goals are revised year over year. Individual will need to adopt and work towards achieving targets set out by the organization, as well as developing new metrics to ensure continuous improvement.
 
 
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE:

Describe any specialized knowledge or skill (e.g., technical, scientific, administrative, managerial), which your position requires.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering /  Masters in Computer applications with 12-16 years of QA experience   
  • Proven experience in test management for large programs/projects, portfolios with multiple cross-functional teams especially in the areas of Siebel, BI and Mobility
  • Excellent understanding and hand on exposure to  automation and performance testing concepts
  • Knowledge and experience in automated testing and performance testing and strong experience in using HP Testing tools such as Application Lifecycle Management (ALM)
  • Strong project/program management skills
  • Excellent experience in defining and implementing QA processes and tools for a QA CoE
  • Strong experience in effectively managing large and diverse teams of at least 8+ in size
  • Excellent communication and interfacing skills with proven record of business facing capabilities
  • Strong hands-on experience in project management, STLC activities starting from requirement understanding till closure
  • Relevant experience in defining and implementing QA processes and tools is highly preferred
  • Experience in managing multiple simultaneous projects of varied sizes. Should have ability to manage stakeholders in different regions.
  • Experience in building team, coaching, driving change, influencing and managing conflicts
  • Must have successfully led major enterprise projects/programs on a global scale (preferably in large, multi-national organizations).
  • Must have experience working on projects on an International level.
  • Testing and management related advanced certification is a plus
