Job Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 

 

 

Build Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) capabilities by close working with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Plants and Supply Chain teams to ensure DfMA aspects with specific focus on material & manufacturing process selection are pro-actively maintained in product design life cycle through active participation in design reviews and mentoring product engineers. Additionally this position will collaborate and support organizational initiatives around Advanced Manufacturing methods and Manufacturing Process simulations

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

 

 

 

A.

Leads interactions with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Plants and Supply chain teams to examine Material selections, Design for Manufacturability & Assembly in support of existing products and introduction of new products & technologies.

 

B.

Drives & guides Material selection/recommendations, DfMA, Product Cost Estimation, Bench-marking and Manufacturing feasibility studies for NPD (PROLaunch) and VA-VE projects.

 

C.

Supports in fast tracking the Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) maturity for Technology Development (PreLaunch) projects by assessing & conducting various reviews.

 

D.

Participates in Design reviews and Design release process to provide manufacturing sign-off before design is released.

 

E.

Establishes key contact as liaison between EIIC Design Engineering and Manufacturing plants & Supply chain organization for respective business group.

 

F.

Drive standardization and sharing of learnings and best practices across businesses.

 

G.

Mentors Product Engineers, Designers on Material selection, DfMA aspects, manufacturing processes, product costing etc.                                                                                                                                    

 

H.

Collaborates and leverage synergy across teams working on Eaton’s initiatives & efforts in Additive Manufacturing and Manufacturing Process Simulation domain to drive differential business solutions and results.

 

I.

Actively seeks out various training and professional development opportunities to keep current with latest manufacturing trends to champion adaptation of new technologies

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy or Mechanical Engineering required; Master’s degree focusing on Materials or Manufacturing Technology preferred
  • 8-10 years’ experience in Materials/Manufacturing engineering; or a combination of Materials/Manufacturing engineering and Product Development
  • Extensive hands-on experience and expertise related to Materials selection, Metallurgy, Manufacturing processes is a must – Machining, Casting, Forging, etc.
  • Knowledge related to Polymers and advance manufacturing methods is plus.
  • Strong experience with new product development, product launches and failure investigation
  • Ability to perform “Design to Value/Cost”, Product cost estimation/optimization, Should costing etc.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, structured problem solving tools and Six Sigma (DFSS & DMAIC) is required
  • Knowledge of Engineering Change Management (ECM) process and ERP system
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills – both verbal and written with ability to work cross functionally within all levels of the organization
  • Strong analytical skills and business acumen
