Job Description

The Eaton Havant Site Are currently recruiting for a:

Senior Hydraulic Design Engineer - Aerospace

 

The Primary Functions:

 

A  senior engineer who is capable of applying analytical skills to the design of Electro-hydraulic components and systems, with the ability to think across product design boundaries.

 

Project manage the design of new  hydraulic valves and systems to meet customer requirements and bring them to  production in a timely and cost effective manner.

 

Provide  leadership, mentoring  junior engineers and deputising for the engineering manager  when required.

 

Lead product design improvements and cost reductions, from concept through design review, approval and  entry into market.

 

Provide technical support on issues relating to the design, production and application of Hydraulic valves, motors and pumps within the Havant product range.


Oversee the development  and set up of hydraulic test rigs  to test new and improved products.

 

Ensure hydraulic test rigs and   test equipment   are  kept  current  and  maintained  correctly

 

Abides with Eaton’s ethical code of conduct  and ensure  all ethical and  working practices   comply with  health , safety, legal  and  environmental  requirements and regulations.

 

 

Essential Functions

 

Design new and modified valves using 3D CAD (ProE experience an advantage) .

 

Able to appraise drawings, reports, change requests ( ECOs) and BOMs for clarity, completeness and conformity to standards, procedures and specifications.

 

Involvement   in cost reduction  programs  for new and  existing products  to ensure the best cost effective solutions are achieved through the application of Lean principles.


Create and review  written test plans and test reports  for products under test.

 

Update and maintain the departments  procedures and  working practice documents

 

Provide engineering  support to manufacturing, to facilitate effective production of new products and problem solve  issues with parts in manufacture.

 

Work with existing  staff  to introduce new and updates to existing  products.

 

Preparation and operation  of  test rigs for functional performance  , endurance , and fatigue testing.

 

Data acquisition and storage from units under test  ( experience of Lab View software an advantage).

 

Maintain laboratory equipment and  support improvements  to the  laboratory test facility.

 

Awareness of health , safety and environmental  procedures and UK and EU regulations.

 

Provide technical support to Sales and marketing.

 

Undertake additional duties and/or projects as designated by management within the job holders agreed capabilities.

 

Some travel may  be required to locations within Europe, Asia  and the USA  to provide engineering support  to  customers, and participate in other inter-site  company activities.

 

 

Qualifications

Experience Required

Please note we are open to speaking to candidates who have/have not designed hydraulics and valves,

 

Candidates must have actioned test process

Candidates must have worked with hydrualic systems

Candidates must have worked with data communications

 

Have a achieved a  BSc in Mechanical Engineering  or an HNC/HND plus  at least 5 years relevant experience in a senior engineering role .

 

Perform and  verify accuracy of calculations.

 

Coordinate prototype manufacture and monitor testing to assure compliance to established requirements.

 

Have a practical and theoretical understanding of Hydraulic systems.

 

Have an appreciation of common industrial / automotive field level  networks  such Controller Area Network (CAN) protocols.

 

Experience  and use of basic programming  software such as Labview would be an advantage.

 

Able to provide technical guidance to other professional engineers.

 

Have proven  experience  of project management  within an engineering function.

 

Able  to perform and verify designs using calculations, and an understanding of  analysis programs such as FEA, and CFD would be an advantage..

 

Possess commercial awareness when assessing  new and potential adaptations to product design.

 

Experience of strategic business planning, management  and  budgets.

 

Experience of managing (small) teams.

 

Desirable Requirements

 

Solid analytical skills including a working knowledge of general mathematics and physics principles.

 

Familiar  with the requirements  of  ISO9001 and  ISO14001

 

Understanding of EU regulations especially relating to compliance to  the Machinery Directive  an advantage

 

Knowledge of electronic control systems an advantage

 

Looking   for  new challenges with  a drive for getting results

 

Must be able  to communicate confidently at all levels both to customers and internal staff, presenting  engineering information that can be understood by a wide audience, across different  functions and levels.

 

Manufacturing  experience of CNC machine tools desirable
