Job Description

Eaton in Houston, TX has an opening for Engineering Manager (Motor Control Centers).
 
The Engineering Manager will manage the engineering, and customer service portion of organization, including Product Engineers, Technicians and Customer Service Representatives to drive organizational success.
 
Essential Functions:
  • Hire, review, & motivate direct reports to accomplish specific plant objectives.
  • Act appropriately to ensure that employees are treated fairly; guide discipline/performance management process as necessary.
  • Maintain and encourage an air of teamwork among others.
  • Work with employees to cross-train and promote to appropriate salary grades for the skill sets mastered.
  • Pricing responsibility/utilizing pricing strategies.
  • Prepare drawings/manufacturing instructions for shop personnel to assemble product orders.
  • Drive process improvements on the front end to streamline engineering efficiencies.
  • Monitor usage of and supporting correct costing procedures to help drive inventory value.
  • Maintain and control all production scheduling for applicable product lines/groups by coordinating with Production Manager.  Ensure that these items are prioritized and manufactured based on customer need and plant capacity levels. Schedule products to maximize operational efficiencies/capacities.  
  • Maintain effective communication channels with Satellite Management Staff, Field Sales Management and Team Members, Distributors, and Contractors. Maintain effective communication channels with internal suppliers to insure the correct application and on time shipment of products.
  • Develop and maintain a full understanding of applicable codes, regulations, and standards relating to the application of all plant products (NEMA, NEC, UL, etc.) Review and resolve all warranty issues and claims in a manner that is consistent with standard company policies and is in the best interest of ourselves and our customers
  • Proactively seek ways to improve overall plant performance through outside seminars and by establishing internal teams to address specific issues.Stay abreast of Electrical Group technical product developments through training or other means.
  • Driving local Engineering process improvements and standardization
  • Local Engineering of product as needed to maintain the flow through the overall front end team
  • Management the SBMS system
  • Provide product design and pricing training to distributors, sales and ther Eaton personnel as needed.
  • Develop and deploy all technical training for new engineers.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Engineering
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship.
Position Criteria:
  • Must have broad understanding of the Eaton Business System (EBS) and how it should be applied.
  • Broad knowledge of the Organization’s products and their applications: panelboards, switchboards, enclosed controls and motor control centers.
  • Must possess sound understanding of the construction market and distribution network served by the regional Operations locations.
  • In depth knowledge of the entire order process from quotation through installation of the product.
  • Product and technical knowledge of control equipment applications are required. 
  • Proven management and leadership skills.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills, verbal and written skills are vital for success in this position.
  • Decisions involving procurement, shipping commitments, and negotiated pricing are standard practices in this role. You are required to work closely with internal and external vendors and the production staff to insure that all commitments are met.
  • Ability to make decisions which support the sales and profit objectives established by the Satellite/Svc Operations Manager.
  • Delegate to staff the responsibility for leading MESH, 5S, supervision of associates, inventory, Time Keeping, and other necessary roles.
  • Perform engineering of complex switchboards when necessary
  • Decisions involving staffing, evaluation, discipline, and discharge of direct reports are to be done in accordance with company guidelines and will be discussed with the Human Resources Manager and the Satellite/Svc Operations Manager when required or as necessary.
  • Difficult commercial decisions involving significant risk should always be discussed with the Satellite/Svc Operations Manager.
 
 Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in from an accredited institution in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Engineering Technology
  • One to three years of management experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Three to Five years of experience in electrical product engineering
  • Experience with Motor Control Center or Control Systems Engineering
