Job Description

The Power Conversion Senior Specialist Engineer is a member of the Corporate Research & Technology’s, Power Systems Technologies department, reporting to the Technology Manager or Global Technology Director.
Eaton’s Corporate Research and Technology (CRT) has an exciting and rewarding position of a SeniorSpecialist Engineer in Power Conversionto initiate, lead, and support research and technology development in emerging technology programs. The job function includes developing and testing innovative power conversion technologies and identifying market opportunities for the new technologies, support businesses to evaluate market studies and develop business cases. The individual will also identify internal and external funding resources, lead discussions with national labs and university leaders to be on top of the key technologies identified. A key role will be to lead customer relationships, present ideas and projects to Eaton business leaders and CRT leadership. Ability to communicate complicated technologies in a clear and concise way to a variety of different audiences (business leaders, technical colleagues and lay people). A good blend of technical knowledge and strong business acumen is required to be successful in this position. The successful candidate will be reporting to the Technology Manager for PST. This position is in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin.
Primary functions for this position include:
  • As a technical leader, create emerging power conversion & power system solutions based on breakthrough technologies for industrial, automotive, truck, and aerospace applications.
  • Lead and develop technology projects by working with teams (local and remote resources) and external technology resources (Business Divisions, Universities and Customers).
  • Advance state of the art power electronics, power systems, and power converter technologies, as well as identify and develop commercialization opportunities with diverse Eaton businesses.
  • Own technical leadership and collaborate with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural globally distributed teams, provide technical direction and mentor younger engineers.


 Basic Qualifications:
  • PhD degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
  • 10 years’ industrial or entrepreneurial experience.
  • 10 years of extensive experience in low and medium voltage power conversion and power systems engineering
  • 10 years of extensive expertise in the following areas: Medium voltage motor drive technology, drive/converter topologies, high-power electronics; electric machines and controls; electrification of vehicles, energy storage, and grid connected converters; alternative power generation and distribution.
  • 10 years of extensive experience in modeling power converters and power systems using simulation tools
  • 7 years of experience in power electronic electromechanical packaging techniques;
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with the design and analysis of magnetic components for power electronics circuits—such as high-frequency inductors and transformers—and an extensive knowledge of the materials and construction techniques and how they affect their characteristics.
  • Experience with real time simulators such as DSPACE, OPAL-RT and/or RTDS.
  • Experience with proven track record in new technology development with multiple stakeholders in a matrixed organizations.
Position Criteria:
  • Understanding of thermal management affect the overall performance of the system, appreciation for the trade-offs necessary to achieve designs that meet performance requirements and cost objective solutions.
  • Business acumen with proven record of formulating value proposition.
  • Excellent English communication and presentation skills (oral and written).
