Job Description

Eaton’s manufacturing facility located in Arden, NC has an opening for a Supply Chain Manager.
The Supply Chain Manager is responsible for directing and controlling the movement of materials in and out of the plant.  Manages key materials related functions such as purchasing, material planning, production scheduling, inventory control, shipping and receiving, warehousing, transportation and logistics.  Supports a plant organization, which manufactures electrical equipment for heavy industrial and commercial users in an engineered to order environment.  Responsible for planning, purchasing, and managing a timely flow of quality goods and services to support customer and plant requirements.  The essential functions are:
  • Leads the management of purchasing activities for items procured on local basis in order to complement centrally purchased items and cost effectively meet manufacturing requirements.
  • Utilize Continuous Improvement Framework to lead the development of methods and policies to ensure the most economical movement of materials in/out of plant to achieve cost-effective logistics practices.  Tools include Lean and Kanban.
  • Leads the Directs materials staff to ensure objectives, schedules and budgets are achieved.
  • Leads the determination of materials requirements to meet production schedules, inventory levels, and shipment demands to achieve on-time production and inventory management requirements.
  • Directs negotiations effectively and ensures that company standard procedures are followed in order to maximize profit and minimize company exposure.
  • Direct cost reduction activities within the purchasing, planning, shipping and receiving departments and assists other departments in cost reduction activities.
  • Ensures that appropriate quality and service levels are maintained through staff personnel to meet customer requirements.
  • Administers controls of receipt and acknowledgment of materials and supplies and the maintenance of purchasing records to optimize inventory levels.
  • Coordinates with other departments to ensure smooth flow of materials, and monitors business trends and economic cycles in order to anticipate change in order flow from customers and material availability from suppliers.
  • Coordinates with production, research, engineering and other departments in order to establish product specifications and identify substitute materials.
  • Analyzes and evaluates inventory and delivery problems and recommends and/or implements solutions to optimize inventory levels and manufacturing schedule.
  • Evaluates work performance of the group annually, or as required, in order to facilitate performance management, merit promotion, transfers, dismissals, commendations, etc.
  • Must possess ability to instill a sense of urgency in both the materials staff and outside vendors that leads to continuous quality and cycle time improvement.
  • Coordinates with central corporate Supply Chain function to provide data and participate in teams in order to drive best practices across Eaton Corporation.
  • Support compliance to corporate initiatives and corporate commodity strategies to achieve synergy across the operation.
  • Communicates and interfaces with site's Plant Manager, his staff and others both inside and outside of the operation, concerning matters, which affect the wellbeing of the operation when related to the Materials function.
  • Establish and direct a quality management system for the materials function that supports and monitors continuous improvement and closed-loop corrective action.
  • Provide training, exposure, and support to foster maximum employee development, satisfaction and performance.
  • Optimize inventory investment
  • Plant and administer effective materials cost improvement program.
  • Insure attainment of individual, department, and plant objectives.
  • Establish and direct purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Create a climate of job satisfaction and open communication.
  • Introduce new material management techniques beneficial to the operation and direct their successful implementation.
  • Other projects as assigned.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required.
  • Ten (10) years combined experience in Purchasing, Materials or Operations.
  • Must be eligible to work in U.S. without company sponsorship.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business related field from an accredited institution.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Ten (10) years combined experience in Purchasing, Materials or Operations.
  • APICS Certification
Position Criteria:
  • Ten years of combined related professional and supervisory/managerial experience such as Materials Management, sourcing or Purchasing (including knowledge of accounting, business systems, and manufacturing).
  • Strong working knowledge of materials planning systems, production planning, inventory control, purchasing, logistics, just-in-time techniques, customer service and stockroom operations including knowledge of accounting, business systems and manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of supply chain management operational concept preferred.
  • Operate in an environment which requires a fine balance between fulfilling materials required by manufacturing and responsible inventory investment.
  • Developing responsible vendors who respond to just-in-times philosophies, yet continually offer improved cosset benefits.
  • Consistent support of manufacturing flow and plant customer service objectives through material availability.
  • Provide quality materials, which enhance product, line quality image and meet design integrity standards.
  • Structure purchasing organization to meet varied and ever changing demands.
    Ability to expound to and direct materials organization to be aware of their tasks and responsibilities to make the maximum contribution to the plant and division objectives.
  • Negotiate with vendors of choice to provide highest quality, cost effective materials.  Present the plant/division posture of just in time dedication to internal/external contacts at all management levels in verbal or written communication so that complete understanding exists.
  • Ability to instill a sense of urgency in both the materials staff and in outside vendors that leads to continuous quality and cycle time improvement.
