Eaton’s Life Safety Division Group is seeking a Product Development Engineer - Electronics. The Product Development Engineer will be based out of our Long Branch, NJ office.
Position Overview:
The Product Development Engineer will be working with senior engineering staff to develop and validate life safety emergency notification devices.  The Product Development Engineer will perform detailed electronic circuit design/analysis, work closely with project leads to coordinate prototyping activities, and be responsible for assigned aspects of the product design from concept through delivery to production.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Participate in product requirements gathering and design
  • Participate in design, development and execution of detailed project plans from concept through product launch.
  • Develop schematics, PCB’s, PCBA’s, BOM’s for emergency notification products which drive light and/or sound
  • Design, implement, and test analog and digital circuits including embedded microcontrollers
  • Analyze moderately complex problems including those related to project risk
  • Participate in creation of FMEA’s, Design Reviews, and similar risk mitigation tools
  • Ensure design and validation consistently follows the Eaton ProLaunch Stage Gate product development process.
  • Work closely with manufacturing, supply chain, QA and participate in design reviews to ensure reliable manufacturability and high quality products.
  • Work closely with Product Management to transform end-user needs into technical specifications and designs to satisfy end-user requirement


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 1+ years of experience in design and development of electronic products.
  • Experience with use of common lab test and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, DVM’s, analyzers, light measurement sensors.
  • Experience designing in 1 or more electronics CAD packages, such as OrCAD.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position.  Only candidates within a 50 mile radius of the work location will be considered
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5 years of experience in design and development of electronic products.
  • Experience with cost sensitive mid-volume high mix electronic products.
  • Experience working with and designing devices utilizing PIC microcontrollers
  • Experience working in Life Safety, Fire Systems, Security, Medical, Military and/or other regulatory-controlled industries
  • FMEA experience (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)
  • DFA/DFM experience (Design for Ass’y/Design for Mfg)
  • Experience working in a cross-functional environment
Position Criteria:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to articulate concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical/electronic circuits and schematics
  • Fundamental understanding of the physics behind light and sound generation
  • Fundamental knowledge of electronics and electrical theory, which may include analog, digital, and/or microcontroller applications
  • Analytical problem solving and critical thinking demonstrated in practical projects and/or coursework
  • Ability to work independently and in groups, ability to work cross-functionally
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite or similar.
