Job Description

The Fuel and Motion Control Systems Division of Eaton’s Aerospace Group has an opening for a Certified Spline Operator. The Certified Spline Operator position will be based at our Euclid, OH facility.
  1. Set up and operate various gear tooth and spline generating machines to produce internal and external gear and spline configurations to precision tolerances.
  2. Perform visual and dimensional inspections and maintain accurate documentation on a variety of parts in accordance with ANSI Y14-5 and certified operator program.
  3. Assistance may be given other operators on proper operational procedures.
  4. Perform 5S and other job related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Perform sub-assembly work.
  • Set up consists of multitude of details involving assembly and alignment of holding devices, establishment of gear ratios, parts traverse, establishing and coordinating all phases to produce specified size, form and finish.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate CNC hobbers, CNC shapers, vertical broaching machines, manual shapers and CNC mills.
  • Cut intricate contours, volutes, and splines and broach internal contours.  Observe and correct machines, fixtures, tooling, and indexing mechanisms.  Perform other job related duties as assigned by the foreman.
  • Analyze and make required adjustments and corrections revealed by gear checking equipment.
  • Obtain sketch, layout, tools, fixtures, and machine parts from crib, stockroom, or other locations.  Change fixtures, cams, etc.  Make adjustments as required.  Install proper gears for number of teeth, feeds, and speeds.
  • Use various gaging devices, such as micrometers and M&M gear checker, to check dimensional aspects and have parts graph plotted when checking form.
  • Inspect tool cutters, maintain tool data reports, and recommend changes of tool cutter geometry.  Inspect completed parts, remove burrs, nicks, and toolmarks.  Straighten bent edges and repair rejected parts.
  • Maintain accurate lot control (QCP 6.0) traceability, record keeping, log book entries, NCR’s (QCP 11.0) and associated documentation.
  • Move material within the cell.
  • Perform minor machine maintenance.
  • May be required to perform more than one operation at a time as directed by the foreman.
  • May be required to burr work internal to the cycle.
  • Chart, plot and react to data per SPC requirement.  Load and unload Datamytes.
  • Perform necessary part marking.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution
  • Minimum two (2) years milling machines or gear generating equipment experience, including one year CNC machining experience.
  • Minimum one year of set-up and operation of close tolerance NC/CNC machining.
  • Pass Eaton vision and lifting tests if applicable.
  • No relocation will be provided. Candidates being considered for this role must reside within a 50 mile radius of the Eaton Euclid facility.
