Lead Power Electronics Design Engineer

Job Description

Eaton is seeking a Power Electronics Development Engineer for its newly formed Power Electronics (PE) Center of Excellence (CoE) in Raleigh, NC.

Eaton’s PE CoE accelerates the company’s growth through the development of power electronics technology platforms and common hardware building blocks that are scalable, cost-effective, and manufacturable as well as standardized design methodologies that can be adopted by multiple business units, which provides a foundation for our business to more rapidly develop innovative products.

The lead power electronics development engineer will coordinate and execute power electronics development including building and testing power electronics as a member of the PE CoE and play a key role in driving the development of technology platforms, common building blocks, and design methodologies to be leveraged by multiple business units.
Essential Functions:
  • Performs design, modeling, simulation and implementation of power electronics circuits for power conversion.
  • Develops the technical requirements and identifies components for the designs
  • Creates technical reports and presentations
  • Constructs, tests, and troubleshoots prototype devices
  • Performs power electronics and analog/mixed signal electronic functional testing
  • Collects and analyzes test data to improve/optimize the designs
  • Collaborates with mechanical, thermal, control and firmware engineers to successfully develop and validate the designs
  • Develops appropriate test procedures and documentation
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution and a minimum of 6 years of engineering experience in developing and testing power electronics
  • Master’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution and a minimum of 3 years of engineering experience in developing and testing power electronics
  • PhD in Engineering from an accredited institution and a minimum of 1 year of engineering experience in developing and testing power electronics
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Good understanding of power electronics, analog/digital circuitry, and, PCBA design practices
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Experience creating 3D-CAD assemblies
  • Experience working in diverse cultural situations with global customers and team members
  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering processes
  • Broad knowledge in power electronics and analog/digital circuitry
  • Familiar with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, power supplies and other standard EE lab equipment
  • Experience building power electronics test fixtures and knowledge of high voltage safety
  • PCB layout experience and soldering skill
  • Ability to learn new skills, technical knowledge, products, or industry
  • Strong written communication and verbal communication skills
