Eaton's Aerospace business in Titchfield, Hampshire currently has an opportunity for
a Lead Engineer for the Motors Centre of Excellence.
The Titchfield site continues to be the largest site in the UK employing approximately 900 people and is home to a large team of Commercial Specialists, Engineers and Programme Managers.
The prime purpose of the Titchfield site is the design, manufacture and aftermarket support of key fuel system components for the major aircraft manufacturers.
Job description:
  • Induction motor - Brushed and Brushless DC motor design.
  • Typical products include electric motors, transformers & solenoids for a variety of civil & military aerospace applications, such as Pumps and Actuators for fuel and hydraulic systems. This is a senior role within a small highly motivated technical team supporting the larger engineering and manufacturing department in this specialist discipline.
  • The role will entail close relationships with other functions within the Aerospace organization at various locations within the UK and USA, in addition to support functions in Pune, India and Prague, Czech Republic.
  • Design motors from requirements and support manufacturing functions through to production.
  • Originate and develop design concepts.
  • Design for reliability, Design for Manufacture and Design for Assembly. Produce analytical designs using recognized analysis tools (e.g. Ansys RMxprt, Maxwell 2D & 3D), accurately and efficiently to tight timescales.
  • Prepare and review engineering proposals, performance specifications, technical reports and papers.


  • Engineering Degree in relevant subject – e.g. Motors, Electromagnetics, Electromechanical, Mechatronics, etc.)  with relevant work experience in the area of electromechanical component design and manufacturing support up to 20 kilowatt range.
  • Working knowledge of Lumped Parameter and Electromagnetic FE design tools for theoretical motor performance simulation (e.g. Ansys RMxprt & Maxwell 2D & 3D)
  • General knowledge of motor manufacturing and test processes will be required to support the production of the designs.
  • In depth experience of Induction motor design and working knowledge of Brushed and Brushless DC motor design is highly desirable.
  • Stator and Rotor design for manufacture.
  • Transformer, Rectifier and wound component (Inductors & chokes) design & testing.
  • Practical understanding of design techniques for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)
